That's not O.KKK

So this paper has brought up a bit of a flashback for me, Year 11 History, Black Civil Rights. As part of our study, we ended up on the KKK website which is ridiculously still a thing. I tried searching for it again, to see if anything had changed and lo and behold! I can only access the application form to join the 'Traditionalist American Knights'.

They seem to have become much more... appropriate?

This is very odd.

I was reading through some of the criteria of joining and they now include things like, 'You must swear that you will not conspire with other Klansmen to commit ANY illegal, violent acts!' and '· be a believer in non-violence, except in self-defense...be law-abiding.'

Of course this is amongst the other drivel like being for the 'protection of the White Race'... Sorry, who's realistically threatening that...? White dominance is still very much a thing. See: institutional racism.

But it got me thinking... The KKK seems to be becoming a bit more... liberal. Of course there is still a LOT to be done about racism in society and specifically the KKK, but can we see this as a slight improvement? Where the extremists claim to no longer be physically abusive and 'above the law'? Or is this minor change just for show and if anything a step back by refusing to acknowledge negative physical participation in a racist movement? Unfortunately, I fear it may be the latter.
