“I Like White Folks But I Don’t Like You”

Taking a look at several posts already on this blog discussing the obvious flaws in Donald Trump’s political views, personal behaviour and overall explicitly racist comments, it is clear to see an overwhelming level of shared displeasure in experiencing both his political movement and awful hair. Reading these posts have provided me with some great insight to the beautiful enigma that is Trump and until recently I was unable to fully grasp my true feelings for this man until I was shown a song on Spotify.

When a good friend of mine came across a hilariously satirical song that poetically comments on Trump’s incapacity to hold political control of America, I was all ears. I am referring to the lyrical masterpiece entitled FDT (F**k Donald Trump) by YG & Nipsey Hu$$le. These two young African American hip-hop artists have taken full advantage of an extremely widespread pop culture platform that is accessible to current voters, their mothers, their long lost uncles, their children and all music listeners in between, to express their personal views on Trump. While I found it highly amusing to hear such blunt astonishment that Trump hasn’t been assassinated by one of the millions of global citizens that are repulsed by his personal conduct, I also found it interesting that these artists are able to create discussion for some of his many (and extensive) list of questionable actions seen during Trump’s political campaign for Presidency.

With phrases like “He too rich, he ain't got the answers, He can't make decisions for this country, he gon crash us, No, we can't be a slave for him” speaking to the genuine fear that Trump may gain responsibility of a country he is certainly not fit to run, but also draws attention to how his overtly racist views could signal the beginning of neo-conservative oppression and marginalization for anyone outside the ignorant Western majority.

This anxiety of our society undoing decades of positive race relation efforts to bring segregated communities across America together is further highlighting at the beginning of the full video uploaded to Youtube. We see a message from YG & Nipsey Hu$$le display across the screen reading:

“As young people with an interest in the future of America....We have to exercise our intelligence and CHOOSE who leads us into it wisely. 2016 will be a turning point in this country's history....The question is....in which direction will we go?”

It was exceptionally refreshing to see this political statement circulating through mainstream media outlets, highlighting a bold voice for the minority groups of not only Americans but anyone insulted or degraded through Trump’s hate speeches. However this celebration was short lived after finding out this song has been completely removed from Spotify and top search links on Google + Youtube.

Once again we are seeing how a presentation of outspoken minority political views are aggressively shutdown by mainstream media. This comes as a blatant contradiction to the First Amendment of the United States Constitution – a document intended to outline the national framework of America’s structure of government. The right to free speech is considered to be a basic human right, yet there is an obvious disparity between the theory and practice of this supreme law, with the access to this song being a perfect example.

It is astonishing that Trump manages to get away with a multitude of derogatory and slanderish comments all of which are easily accessible by any media outlet you can get your hands on. His comments make national headlines, spark conversations both in person and online. However when a racial minority group steps forward in rebuttal to produce social pushback to such outrageous comments in a way that stays true to hip-hop as a cultural music form it is still regarded as the height of inappropriate media content.

After extensive searching for this song online, this link below is the only copy available. I highly recommend having a look at the video if you haven’t already!

I think the critical message to take away from this is in regards to YG & Nipsey Hu$$le’s insightful questions raised at the very beginning of the video – We currently live in a society that supposedly gives the power of representation to the people. Having the ability to decide the future of your nation is a privilege in retrospect globally. The turning point is right now! So I ask you should this destructive social ‘leader’ who is fuelled by constant fear mongering and outdated racist beliefs be given power to effectively revert America back into extreme segregation and persecution of its own citizens? Surely not?
